Judgement at JFK

...For a clever and gifted friend. I love him really ;)

You sketch verse
where your sun comes out

of the bosom of babes
the underbelly

Let's not forget the anointed
with which you bestow on us
crystal thoughts
rare confetti for the literati

and you scream judgement is yours
judgement is yours

and we dance for you
the danube
your blue fest
loyalty and unity

waltz over dew
sat ire
down under
your song leads you ever on

Zebra Crossing

     Can we all afford
extra rights of way to walk
        our prejudices

     What if we were born,
Black and White tattooed forehead -
     'Hate has no place here.'

NaPoWriMo 2013 (national poem writing month) has come to an end. Sob, sob not! Glad to have taken part and fortunate that something popped up in my head to write every day! It was my second time taking part. First time last year. It's been great to have you reading. A big thank you to my fellow poets for their support. Thank you all for coming on the journey with me.

Rosemary

    Will you hug her close
 stray into her spicy spines
    face tingled with glee

    She loves to clean house
     and massage hard surfaces
          Stallions love her

   Allure of laughter
separation of distance
 notes in the pickings

    Dry and thirsty land
long miss the sheen of her oil
    yearning for her touch

Posted to Haiku Heights - Prompt: ROSEMARY

image: wikipedia

When I was younger, we had a Ghanaian househelp called Rosemary. She was my favourite of the ones we were fortunate to have as the years rolled by. Her laughter was infectious. She never tired of cleaning, cleaned all day whether it was necessary or not - it was her favourite thing. I remember mum often telling her to stop. (And that was quite something as my mum loves cleaning, herself). Now that I think about it, I wonder if Rosemary had OCD or some past trauma that led to her compulsive cleaning habit. Her other obsession weakness was an insatiable appetite for men. They loved her too. Amazing personality - but you could never get emotionally close to her. Every prying question was met with a laugh. Her laughter made you warm up to her but also kept you at arm's length. We were sad when she left. I hope she's happy wherever she is today.

Moroccan Blues

Moroccan Blues

 Mesmerised from
the land of small islands
                      I greet you
         you reply in french
           I don't understand

                    swollen feet
do your streets no justice
     I drag on your spread
   like the snake charmer
               on his tobacco

            your spice sings
         mint and cinnamon
      embrace my tongue
bringing me back to life
      like your horse trot
              at the Medina

never mind the
french rites of passage
     greeting my palate
for the sake of a snake
charmer whose smile
makes money with guile
au revoir chilling
your hustle and sting
hug of orange trees

I'm leaving

Been in Marrakech, Morocco for a week. Quite an experience. I've got a thing for North Africa and the Mediterranean that I can't get out of my system! Heading back home.
