African Queen

Source

Love you enough
value your worth

Know yourself
and the yearnings of your soul

Truth is your companion
Chase out rot
dust cobwebs
(You don't need those)

Practice self love daily
Loving others is pointless if you don't
It's like pouring water into a basket
...too many holes

Water your dreams
let visions take hold
like thirsty seedlings with roots
on fertile ground

Give them wings
that withstand the strongest
of winds
Wax will not do

glue sucks too
Be organic

Grow your own stalks
Do the bantu

Sway in the breeze
They do not lie

Bask in your shade
Know you're a queen
among queens
Yes, I said so

Long live your African Queen
Tell them your mama said so

You were born to live
African Queen!

Too many people believe love comes from without, when we know it comes from inside, to be shared with others. I have friends who say "let us love you until you learn to love yourself" to those who are very alone and lost. It is also good advice.

  12. I have not been on your blog before, so thanks to Real Toads for this. First off, the picture is priceless. I love "natural" hair, and this braid/fro is really lovely. She seems to bloom like a flower.

Your words to your little African Queen are similar to my post: Advice to a daughter, solid, rooted in tradition and self-respect. Something tells me she's going to do something very special in this world. Like change it. Peace, Amy

  17. Hi Adura. There are so many great images here. Amongst those i love - dust cobwebs
(You don't need those). I'm going to live that today! You remind me a little of Maya Angelou (one of my favourite poets) with this piece.

(Thanks for adding me to Google +). :D
